A few days ago we mentioned that the call for the City of Valladolid World Tapas Championship was underway, but we gave priority to the 2023 City of Valladolid National Pinchos and Tapas Contest, given that the bulk of our readers is national. But we also have a large and beautiful community of residents outside of Spain, both amateurs and lovers of gastronomy, as well as professionals, and some have asked us for information on the City of Valladolid World Tapas Contest, because although this contest is younger than the nationally, it seems that its international repercussion is on the rise.
So, for those who asked and for those who did not dare to ask, we are going to know the requirements to register for the world tapas championship that this year celebrates its seventh edition, you have plenty of time to create your tapa and present it, given that the call is open until September 20, 2023.
Let’s remember that this championship is organized by the Mixed Society for the Promotion of Tourism of Valladolid in collaboration with the Provincial Association of Hospitality of Valladolid. It is aimed at active professionals in hospitality establishments around the world. Those interested can present a single tapa created expressly for this contest, the theme is free, but as with the national edition of the contest, the cost of the ingredients must not exceed the value of 1.80 euros ($1.90).
Registration for the VII City of Valladolid World Tapas Championship will be made through the form that they have enabled for this purpose and which you can access by clicking here. In addition to the candidate’s data, the recipe must be presented step by step, with all the ingredients and accompanied by a photograph and a video of less than a minute and a half in length.
Of all the entries received, the jury will select a maximum of 15 finalists, in addition to two reserves, who must travel to the city of Valladolid to participate in the grand final. In this championship there will also be a Spanish candidate, and that is that the winner of the National Contest of Pinchos and Tapas Ciudad de Valladolid from last year already has the place. It is important to note that the travel and accommodation expenses for four nights will be borne by the organization of the contest.
Although the final will be held in one day, those selected for the final phase of the World Tapas Championship will be summoned on November 6, 7 and 8, so they will also attend the national contest, and will also have a catering establishment from Valladolid who will sponsor him.
Before creating the cover, it is interesting to know that in the championship they will have 25 minutes to prepare their culinary creation and that they must present eleven identical covers, ten for the different members of the jury and one for the press photograph. And now we come to the prizes, which are interesting due to the professional impact they have and the economic incentive, three will be awarded:
First prize: Artistic Award and 10,000 euros
Second prize: Artistic Award and 5,000 euros
Third prize: Artistic Award and 2,500 euros
